Teacher story Milouska

Milouska Lensing is a well-known face at HAS green academy. As a senior lecturer, coach and Year 1 coordinator for the International Food & Agribusiness (IFA) programme, she has been dedicated to student wellbeing and development for over twenty years. With her warm personality, sharp insight and tireless commitment, she helps students grow: from the inside out. Get to know Milouska!

About Milouska

My name is Milouska Lensing, married and mother of two daughters. I was born and raised in the Netherlands and live in the Den Bosch area. I am a social animal and love organising and arranging events and other fun activities. In addition, I love reading and walking, and like to immerse myself in other people, countries and cultures.

I have now been working at HAS green academy for over 20 years as a Senior Lecturer in the areas of Personal Leadership, Inner Development Goals and Business Communication. I am also an experienced coach and support students during their studies in their personal and professional development. Next to that, I am active as coordinator of Year 1 and am highly committed to student care and student welfare.

Before my job at HAS, I worked for several years as an HR project officer and communication advisor within a university hospital.

Passion for personal growth

Funnily enough, before working at the HAS, I always firmly proclaimed that I would NEVER work in education, but when I came across it by chance, I was “hooked”. I immediately loved working with students and helping them progress! Especially the personal contact with them makes working at HAS a real treat for me.

That is also the thing I like most about my job: coaching and guiding students in their studies and careers on a talent- and values-based basis. This implies that we focus on the positive sides and things they are already good at, and we have them think about what drives them and how their inner compass can help them navigate through their life, studies & career.

It is great to see students grow both professionally and personally and to be able to contribute to that. The most fun and challenging part of it is to keep inspiring and stimulating them to get the best out of themselves.

The IFA team is highly committed and willing to go the extra mile for our students.

Working at the HAS

I greatly enjoy working at the HAS. The working atmosphere and contact between staff and students is extremely informal and personal. Students can approach staff easily and may address us by our first names. The IFA team is highly committed and willing to go the extra mile for our students.

I am therefore also very proud of our students and graduates, especially when you see the interesting and challenging positions they end up in and the impact they make on (the future of) our global food system. Personally, I find it very beautiful that I get to challenge them daily to look for their talents and keep working on their “inner development for outer change”.

Over the years we have built a strong international (networking) community within the IFA programme, our so-called IFAmily. We remain connected. Once an IFA, always an IFA!

Advice for new students

Above all, stay yourself and give yourself time to grow and (continue to) develop yourself. Every person has something unique and everyone has their own challenges. Not everything has to be perfect and you do not have to have all the answers yet! As long as you remain positive, curious and willing to learn, you will get there. Even if it's through trial & error... then the reward will be all the greater!
