This 20-weeks pre-graduation program focuses on becoming a cultivation specialist and/or consultant on a crop of your choice. As an exchange student you will take part in our English-taught study programme Horticulture & Business Management.

Learning goals

After completion of this exchange, you are able to:

Understand the basics of a business plan, starting a business, entrepreneurial qualities, sales and financial results.
Understand the basics of soil and fertilization, cultivation techniques, crop protection and crop protection plan, experimental design and statistics.
Understand the basics of the supply chain, chain information, sales strategy, collaboration, logistics, food safety and waste, quality, storage and certification.
Apply cultivation knowledge, do calculations, do research and compare technical cultivation installations, make classifications, and choose the correct measuring equipment.
Cultivate and do research on a self-chosen and planted crop
Have insight into your personal en professional development

Admission requirements

English on the B2 level and basic knowledge of mathematics, biology, chemistry and horticulture is required.
It is recommended to have completed at least 1 year of higher education (bachelor) prior to the start.

Practical information

Literature

Most of the literature is provided in the digital environment of the courses. Books can also be reviewed at the study center of HAS green academy and also GreenI is a possibility.

Schedule

The exchange programme has a duration of 20 weeks (1 semester). 2 September 2024 is the starting date. However, the week before several (mandatory) introduction activities for international students are scheduled. Your academic schedule most of the time includes 3 days of lectures at HAS and 1 day of online lectures. Also, one day is reserved for self-study, field trips and excursions. The final day of the semester is 7 February 2025.

Testing

The working methods during this exchange are varied: (guest)lectures, seminars, practical’s, excursions, (group)projects, and field trips.
Assessment takes place by means of written tests, report writing, e-exams, projects, assignments and presentations.
Last but not least, you will be assigned a coach to discuss your personal and professional development.

Costs

Approximately 110 euros for excursions and field trips.
