At Delphy, Askar mainly supports research projects. “Mostly assisting with research. Scoring tulips. Statistics. Experiments sometimes.” It gave him the chance to strengthen both his practical and analytical skills. “I learned statistics, flower bulb biology and sustainable pest management.”
What stood out most to him was the combination of commercial thinking and scientific research. “Learning the way Delphy combines science and business. That is what I want to do too!”
Of course, not everything was easy. “The distance from home to internship is 2 hours by train,” Askar says. And working with tulips also came with unexpected challenges. “It is really hard to find tulip bulbs in spring. You need to import them from the Southern Hemisphere, it’s crazy.”
Still, the experience confirmed what kind of future he wants to build for himself: one where innovation, business and the flower sector come together.
His advice for students looking for an internship? “Don’t just be an average student. Do some cool projects on the side.”
