Next academic year, HAS University of Applied Sciences will start a new specialisation within the Business Management in Agriculture & Food study programme in Venlo: Horse and Companion Animals. It is the third option within the higher professional education level study programme, adding to the existing specialisations Agri and Food.
For the first time at HAS University of Applied Sciences, students with a passion for horses, dogs, cats or other companion animals can now focus on the business aspects of the equestrian or companion animal sector right from the start of their study programme.
Head start
The reason for expanding the study programme Business Management in Agriculture & Food is the ever more rapidly changing labour market. Students can respond to a multitude of opportunities after their graduation. The fact that they have spent 4 years gaining in-depth knowledge in one sector gives them a head start compared to young professionals with a general education.
International equestrian sport
There’s a good reason why the specialisation will be linked to Business Management in Agriculture & Food in Venlo. The equestrian sector is of great economic importance in Limburg: the region is at the centre of international equestrian sport. One of HAS University of Applied Sciences’ partner companies, Equestrian Centre De Peelbergen, provides the region with a real prime venue, equal to those in other Belgian and German locations, offering unprecedented international appeal. The new HAS specialisation is not intended to train horse riders or grooms, but to educate business managers who will focus on financing options, managerial duties or marketing.
Professionalisation of the companion animal sector
Our graduates can make a significant contribution to the professionalisation of the companion animal sector, where pet food and pet shops have a crucial role. Since over 4 million households have 1 or more pets, raising the sector to a higher level is extremely relevant. HAS University of Applied Sciences is working together with partner companies including Feed Design Lab, focussing on innovation and increasing sustainability in the animal feed sector.
