Carolina Tavares wins HAK challenge 2024

Carolina, a 4th-year student at the International Food & Agribusiness programme, is this year's proud winner of the Adri den Dekker Prize. With this incentive prize, HAK challenges students each year to come up with the best idea to make agriculture more sustainable and future-proof. The prize includes a study cheque of €2,000.

As part of the speciation Future Food Systems, Carolina presented her vision of a fair food system with great passion and drive, talking about the right to food and a fair distribution of income in the chain. That change in our food system is necessary and imminent was evident from the essays of the 3 finalists, where topics such as the application of AI, the importance of soil for healthy food and biodiversity were discussed.

On behalf of HAK, I would like to thank all students for their contribution. This generation is greatly needed to achieve the transition to a healthy food system.
Joachim Nieuwhoff
Director of Purchasing & Agriculture at HAK

Congratulations again to Carolina and many thanks HAK for making this possible for our students, and the jury; Adri den Dekker (former director of procurement, agriculture and sustainability at HAK), Frederike Praasterink (lecturer in future food systems) and Michael Wilde (expert in organic agriculture and nutrition).
