BrightBox is a state-of-the-art research and training center for for daylight-free multi-layer cultivation. All factors that determine the growth of a plant can be controlled in the BrightBox.
Researchers predict that 70% more food will be needed in 2050 than what we need now. Because the world's population will reach 9 billion, and because global prosperity is rising and people are eating more and differently. So new, efficient production methods are needed.
Lines of Research
There are various lines of research in which BrightBox develops new growth concepts together with customers. Knowledge about cultivation, climate and optimization of light are central to this.
As lecturer New Cultivation Systems, Jasper den Besten directs BrightBox.
Within the center, HAS University of Applied Sciences, Botany and Philips Lighting work closely together, supported by the Province of Limburg.
