Working on Food Innovation Challenges

In this minor you will be working on a real-life food innovation challenge in the field of healthy and sustainable food. The minor uses a design thinking approach combined with systems thinking, cocreation with stakeholders and consumers and persuasive design tools for concept, product, packaging and intervention design.

About the programme

You will work on several challenges in small interdisciplinary groups, including finding solutions for food waste challenges, developing healthy and sustainable food concepts (product, packaging, intervention) and new food systems. More specific examples include:

  • Creating a persuasive food waste awareness campaign aimed at students and teachers.
  • Creating a new product out of a waste stream.
  • Developing a food product made from Dutch plant-based proteins that does not resemble animal products such as meat and milk.
  • Setting up a persuasive intervention for healthy and sustainable foods.
  • Developing new food packaging that persuades consumers to avoid food waste.

Learning goals

After completing this programme:

  • You master the process of food concept development, design thinking, systems thinking, behavioural methodology and professional leadership.
  • You have in-depth knowledge of food waste, plant proteins versus animal proteins, healthy and sustainable food and future food systems.
  • You are able to apply the skills of cocreation, insights mapping, interviewing stakeholders and users, intervention design, prototyping, packaging and communication.

  • Eligibility: third year bachelor degree programme

Admission requirements

To join this minor, you need to be motivated to work on current food challenges and learn about food and innovation processes. Prior food knowledge or experience is useful but not required.

Required: Propaedeutic certificate and at least 40 credits from the 2nd year.

How to apply for an exchange programme, minor or specialisation

If your university is an exchange partner of HAS green academy you can apply for an exchange period at the International Office of your own university.

If you are from an institution without an agreement with HAS green academy, please get in touch with Loes Rosenberg at studentexchange@has.nl.

2. Be nominated

The International Office of your home institution will nominate you as an exchange student at HAS green academy.

 

How to be nominated

Students can be nominated by sending an email to studentexchange@has.nl.

Please include:

  • the name,
  • date of birth,
  • gender,
  • e-mail,
  • period and
  • the programme the student wishes to apply for.
3. Info about application

After we have received your nomination, we will send you the information regarding your application at HAS (important deadlines, application form, required documents etc.).

4. Complete the application

Once we have received your (complete) application before the application deadline we will start to process it.

5. Status application and admission

After the application deadline you will be informed about the status of your application and admission at HAS green academy.
